Buddhist in America: Ryan Hayashi (Teach for America) SGI International Soka University of America

Ryan Hayashi explains how the lowest point in his life-facing a felony drug charge in high school-became the starting point for a great transformation. Using his Buddhist practice of chanting nam-myoho-renge-kyo, Ryan uses the suffering caused from his troubled youth to understand the suffering of others. Upon graduating college he enters the highly selective program Teach for America, and teaches at a alternative high school in Anthony, New Mexico, where he teaches and empowers the kind of at-risk youth he himself was just a few years ago.

This series follow members of the Buddhist organization, SGI-USA, as they share their real life stories of practicing Buddhism in America. https://www.facebook.com/sgiusa.info
